Canadian auto supplier Magna International is expanding its Greenville County operations to support new business with BMW. Magna International’s $50.8 million investment will go toward a 165,000-square-foot exteriors facility at Matrix Park to supply exterior front and rear parts. The investment will add 153 jobs, according to a news release.
The company plans to move into the new exterior facility in June 2016. A representative from Magna International did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
“Greenville County’s automotive economy continues to grow at a solid rate,” said Greenville County Council Chairman Dr. Bob Taylor. “Magna International’s commitment to its facility at Matrix Park is proof positive that future growth in this sector will continue for many years to come.”
Headquartered in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, Magna International employs 124,000 people worldwide, and provides body, chassis, exterior, seating, powertrain, electronic, vision, closure and roof systems and modules, as well as complete vehicle engineering and contract manufacturing.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project. “The County Administrator, Joe Kernell, and County Attorney, Mark Tollison, were instrumental in making this deal work,” continued Farris. “We appreciate their efforts and look forward to future opportunities to enlist their support.”
