Introduction:
Stellantis has revealed a major investment exceeding $406 million across three Michigan facilities to bolster its multi-energy strategy. Additionally, the company announced that the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) will be the first U.S. site to manufacture a fully electric vehicle.
Features:
Ram 1500 REV: This is Stellantis' inaugural battery-electric light-duty pickup truck, set to launch in late 2024. The vehicle will be assembled at SHAP, which is receiving a $235.5 million investment for this purpose. The Ram 1500 REV offers up to 500 miles of range with a larger battery and 350 miles with a smaller one, and is built on the new STLA Frame architecture.
2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger: An extended-range version of the Ram 1500, also produced at SHAP. It delivers 663 horsepower, 615 lb-ft of torque, and features a 92 kWh battery paired with a 130 kW generator to enhance power usage flexibility.
Warren Truck Assembly Plant (WTAP): A $97.6 million investment will prepare this plant to produce an electrified Jeep Wagoneer. It will manufacture both electrified and internal combustion engine (ICE) versions of various Jeep models.
Dundee Engine Plant (DEP): A $73 million investment will retool this facility for assembling battery trays and machining beams for the STLA Frame and STLA Large architectures, with production slated to begin between 2024 and 2026.
Stellantis' strategic plan includes over €50 billion in electrification investments, targeting 100% battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in Europe and 50% in the U.S. by 2030, with a goal of achieving carbon net zero by 2038.
