Introduction:
JLR is investing £65m in sustainably expanding its special paint facilities globally to meet growing demand for personalised luxury vehicles and reduce the environmental impact of its most carbon intensive manufacturing processes.
Features:
JLR is investing £65 million to expand its luxury paint capabilities across the UK and Europe, doubling its capacity for bespoke and premium paint finishes. New facilities will open in Castle Bromwich, UK, and Nitra, Slovakia, enabling the company to fulfil over 17,000 additional custom orders annually. For the first time, JLR’s most exclusive paint options will be available across all brands.
The Castle Bromwich site will see a £41 million upgrade, including a £26 million replacement of existing paint booths with new, energy-efficient, automated spray booths, set to be operational in 2025. These booths will reduce paint waste by 30%, cut energy and water use, and deliver a higher-quality finish.
This expansion supports rising demand for the SV Bespoke Paint service, which allows Range Rover SV clients to match any colour—even from private jets or yachts. On average, these customisations add £70,000 to the vehicle’s £202,000 base price.
Meanwhile, a new £10 million electric paint line will be constructed in Nitra, Slovakia, where Defender and Discovery models are built. Featuring electric curing ovens, this facility will save approximately 500 tonnes of CO2e annually and marks a key step in JLR’s transition to lower-carbon operations. Production will begin in 2026, creating 120 new jobs.
Additionally, JLR is improving efficiency at existing facilities with smart oven controls and a new heat exchanger, projected to reduce CO2e emissions by 2,250 tonnes and save £750,000 annually.
