Introduction:

JLR has announced a £500 million investment aimed at transforming its historic Halewood facility. This upgrade will enable the facility to produce electric vehicles alongside existing combustion and hybrid models.

Features:

The site has been expanded by 32,364 square metres to manufacture JLR’s medium-sized electric luxury SUVs on the new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform.

The historic plant has been equipped with advanced technology, including new EV assembly lines, 750 autonomous robots, ADAS calibration rigs, laser alignment technology for precise part fitting, and the latest cloud-based digital plant management systems to oversee production, creating a ‘factory of the future.’

A new body shop has been established, capable of producing 500 vehicle bodies each day.

The final production line has been extended from 4 km to 6 km to facilitate battery installation.

This investment reinforces JLR’s commitment to its Reimagine strategy, which aims to reposition the company as an electric-first, modern luxury carmaker by 2030.
