Introduction:

Continental is expanding the production capacity of its tire plant in Rayong, Thailand. The phased expansion of operations represents a planned total investment of over 300 million euros (13 billion Thai Baht).

Features:

The project is supported by the Board of Investment of Thailand under its Investment Stimulation Measure for Economic Recovery Scheme, further bolstering Continental’s ongoing growth in Thailand and the APAC region. This expansion will create approximately 600 new jobs in the coming years. With over 900 employees already at its Rayong tire plant, Continental is reaffirming its commitment to the Thai market and the Asia-Pacific region.

"This latest capacity expansion in Rayong reflects our robust growth in the Asia-Pacific region, one of Continental Tires' key strategic markets,” said a company spokesperson.

Rayong plays a critical role in Continental’s global tire production network, supplying both vehicle manufacturers and the replacement tire market with passenger, light truck, and motorcycle tires. This latest development also coincides with the celebration of 15 years of Continental’s tire business in Thailand, marking a significant milestone for the company.

At the Rayong plant, Continental produces premium tires, including the MaxContact MC7, designed to meet the specific demands of electric vehicles. In 2023, the company supplied original equipment tires to all five of the top electric vehicle manufacturers by volume in the Asia-Pacific region. Rayong is also one of Continental’s largest motorcycle tire production facilities globally.

The plant upholds high energy efficiency standards, utilizing state-of-the-art production technologies and highly automated logistics and handling processes. With a photovoltaic capacity of 6.7 megawatts peak, 13 percent of the plant's annual electricity needs are covered by renewable energy sources. Continental continues to invest in sustainability, digitalization, and automation across its 20 tire plants in 16 countries worldwide. The company focuses on research and development of innovative technologies, alternative materials, eco-friendly production processes, and the ongoing improvement of logistics efficiency.
