23 October 2020

In addition to the definitive entry into the extra-heavy segment, the production of the VW Meteor represents another milestone in the history of VW Trucks and Buses: the millionth vehicle produced by the automaker is a unit of the 29,520 model . Of this total, more than 850 thousand units were manufactured by the VWCO industrial complex in Resende (RJ), which celebrates 25 years since its first installations in the city and houses the brand's worldwide development center, in addition to the company's most modern assembly lines. , which received recent investments of more than R $ 500 million.

"This production record is now the result of our constant efforts since the beginning of our operations in 1981, but above all from our installation in Resende, which started in 1995 with a laboratory factory. Over the past 25 years, we have continuously invested to guarantee a production process with the latest technology. R $ 5.5 billion was allocated to the company's growth, with the most recent investment cycle expected to end in 2021 and which has a large part of its resources focused on the launch of the new extra-heavy VW " , says Roberto Cortes , president and CEO of Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus.

For the new line of these recently launched vehicles, the company has invested in modern 4.0 manufacturing at the automation level, with advanced robotics and data connectivity, from the frame to the cabin finish. The VW Caminhões e Ônibus plant now has more than 70 robots, one third of which are dedicated to the Meteor line. The launches also have an exclusive area: a total of 18 thousand square meters, including parts logistics to production.

The new family will add to VWCO's extensive list of successes. The largest volume models produced to date were the Worker, with around 434 thousand units since their first versions. Constellation products, launched in 2006, already exceed 253 thousand vehicles manufactured. Meanwhile, the Volksbus family of buses accumulates 160 thousand chassis and Delivery light trucks surpass the 142 thousand vehicles in circulation. The MAN TGX also makes its contribution to the milestone: around 11,000 bhp of the Bavarian brand have already passed the Resende assembly line.
