Unifrax launches a new catalytic product Eco-lytic™-a cleaner, lighter and more efficient vehicle emission reduction solution
12 April 2021
The leading manufacturer of specialty high-performance materials Unifrax for the transport market today introduced a new type of nanostructured alumina catalyst support technology - Eco-Lytic developed by the Unifrax ™ . The Eco-lytic catalyst carrier fiber is installed in the catalytic converter of the vehicle to replace the existing catalytic converter or add it to the existing system to improve the emission reduction effect, reduce the consumption of precious metals and raw materials, and reduce the weight of the vehicle. Reduce energy usage. The solution is designed to help extend the life of cleaner engines, allowing automakers to meet increasingly stringent environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards and regulations, while realizing significant costs as the market transitions to electric vehicles (EV) saving.
Eco-lytic is currently undergoing post-testing by several global automakers. Preliminary results show that, compared with traditional systems, this solution can reduce the mass of catalyst carrier media by up to 80% and reduce platinum group metal loading by 40%. After adopting this solution, the catalytic performance is improved, the ignition speed is accelerated, and the efficiency is also improved. Unifrax will have commercial production capacity by the end of 2021.
Chad Cannan, senior vice president of Unifrax R&D, said: "The transportation industry is undergoing an incredible transformation-automakers and regulators are working hard to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition to electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles. The process of transformation. It won’t happen overnight. The industry urgently needs near-term solutions to help transition to a more environmentally friendly footprint. Eco-lytic is such a solution and a step forward that we currently need. Eco-lytic will bring all traditional engines Revolutionary changes, whether large, small, mobile or stationary engines. Our products are designed to improve the emission reduction effect, reduce the demand for precious raw materials, extend the service life of cleaner engines, and help by reducing the weight of the vehicle Promote a more sustainable carbon footprint."
Eco-lytic's flexible structure not only has the advantages of efficiency and cost saving, but also provides unique packaging options for partners and manufacturers in the transportation industry. Unifrax has the ability to customize Eco-lytic products by realizing the shape and size specified by the customer to meet the different needs of each partner to adapt to the special installation location requirements that cannot be met by the existing technology.
John Dandolph, President and CEO of Unifrax, said: "Unifrax will continue to pursue its mission to make the world greener, cleaner and safer. We have been committed to supporting the industry through a strong and stable combination of batteries and technology solutions. Electric vehicle transition. These combinations include: our recently launched proprietary anode technology SiFab™, which can greatly increase the energy density of lithium-ion batteries; AGM separator materials, large-format lithium-ion glass separators, gap thermal runaway barriers, and battery compartment fire protection systems And now the Eco-lytic solution launched. Eco-lytic provides an exciting transitional solution that can reduce the weight and cost of catalytic converters and the use of precious metals and raw materials, and maximize the industry's transition to electric vehicles To reduce the impact of traditional engines on the environment. Therefore, Eco-lytic is a unique and proprietary solution that opens the door to a new era of emission control, in line with Unifrax’s mission."
Eco-lytic is based on Unifrax's long-term and deep accumulation in fiber technology and manufacturing, and is the first step for Unifrax to enter the field of catalytic carriers. Unifrax is the inventor of specialty ceramic fibers and has more than 75 years of history in the development and supply of inorganic engineering materials for advanced global industries such as electric vehicles, aerospace, and chemical processing.
Unifrax will discuss Eco-lytic technology with interested participants during the WCX Digital Summit of the International Society of Automotive Engineering, held from April 13 to 15, 2021 . For more information about Eco-lytic, please visit www.unifrax.com .
