Suspension upgrade for Volkswagens luxury SUV: KW V3 coilover suspension also for the facelift model of the VW Touareg

18 September 2024

Nearly a third of all new car registrations in Germany in 2023 were SUVs. This trend is mirrored across Europe, with Volkswagen leading the SUV market in both regions. KW automotive, the aftermarket suspension manufacturer, now offers the KW V3 coilover suspension kit for the facelifted VW Touareg III. The kit features independently adjustable compression and rebound damping, providing the Touareg III with a sportier, more harmonious driving experience while allowing for maximum lowering. The suspension tuning particularly shines on long overland journeys. Made from stainless steel, the coilover suspension is compatible with all facelift models except for the plug-in hybrid variants. With a parts certificate, the SUV can be continuously lowered from 30 to 60 millimeters on both axles. More at www.kwsuspensions.net

Regardless of the segment, from compact to luxury, the SUV boom shows no signs of slowing down. There is also a growing demand for sporty accessories for SUVs, with coilover suspensions joining alloy wheels and lifts as popular choices. "Many people buy coilovers for their SUVs and then lower them. This might seem surprising, but it's a major trend in our industry," says KW Brand Manager Florian Johann.

The KW V3 coilover suspension is now available for the facelifted VW Touareg III, introduced in Germany in May 2024. "Currently, our coilover suspension is only compatible with models without air suspension or plug-in hybrid systems," says Florian Johann. "Installing the KW V3 generally enhances steering response and overall handling precision compared to the standard suspension. Even at low speeds, our KW multi-valve dampers ensure increased rolling comfort." In addition, the KW V3 coilover suspension ensures significantly increased cornering stability, even at high speeds. The body's tendency to roll is reduced due to improved support during cornering. If the Touareg is driven quickly over a small bump or a transverse joint on the motorway, additional valve sections open in the multi-valve dampers. This means that road bumps are effectively absorbed, minimizing body movement. Transverse joints are also transmitted to the passenger compartment with clean damping. Thanks to independently adjustable compression and rebound damping, the preset setting can be customized for a sportier or more comfortable ride.

"We always use separate adjustment options for the pressure and rebound valves, while other retrofit suspensions typically use a parallel setting," says Florian Johann, describing the damper adjustment. "Thanks to this separate adjustment, compression and rebound damping, as well as driving behavior, can be adjusted more selectively." With 16 precise clicks, low-speed rebound forces can be adjusted for firmer handling or more comfort. The low-speed compression damping, adjustable with twelve clicks, allows fine-tuning of turn-in behavior, rolling comfort, and tire grip.

With the KW V3 coilover suspension, the VW Touareg III can be continuously lowered by 30 to 60 millimeters on both axles, as per the parts certificate. The stainless-steel KW coilover suspension is available at specialist shops and directly at KW automotive. www.kwsuspensions.net
