Polyplastics Develops New Classes of Polyoxymethylene DURACON (R) for Automotive Fuel System Components

1 July 2019

Polyplastics Group has announced the development of several new classes of DURACON (R) Polyoxymethylene (POM), providing high flux and stiffness and significant design freedom for component production automotive fuel injection molded systems. These new materials complement the flagship POM DURACON (R) range of Polyplastics, already widely used in automotive fuel system components because of its excellent fuel resistance.

The company markets H140-54C DURACON (R), a high flow / stiffness class, with a melt flow index (MFR) of approximately 14. This material, used in Europe , is suitable for a wide range of environmental conditions. molding (cylinder conditions, injection pressure). By stiffening the material, the idea is to allow finer products. In parallel, the higher flow rate suppresses increases in pressure peaks that occur during injection molding due to the thinness of the wall. The H140-54C DURACON (R) facilitates the production of small, thin-walled parts.

Polyplastics also announced a developing POM class, offering exceptional resistance to acids. One of the traditional limitations of the POM is its vulnerability to strong acids, yet this new material brings significant improvements in this area. The acid resistant class targets a range of carburizing system applications, including on-board refueling vapor recovery valves, shut-off valves, and fuel pump module flange attachments attached to the fuel system. outside fuel tanks. These parts can be damaged by the acidity of automotive cleaning fluids, acid rain and other substances.

Polyplastics has also developed an electrically conductive class for use in the components that surround the fuel to avoid static electricity. Generally, when resin is given conductivity, it often influences certain performance characteristics, resulting in reduced fluidity and toughness. This class is conductive, but retains the main performance characteristics of the POM, including fluidity and robustness.
