Next Generation – Introducing the New KW V7 Racing Dampers: KW automotive equips the Lamborghini Temerario GT3
15 July 2025
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the suspension manufacturer unveiled the next generation of its motorsport dampers for homologated customer racing programs by automotive manufacturers. The new KW V7 Racing Damper is a technological evolution of the KW V6 Racing Damper, which is used in the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, BMW M4 GT3 Evo, and Porsche 911 GT3 R. Like the V6 Racing, the new V7 Racing is also based on KW’s Solid Piston Technology, which covers a broad force range. In addition, the damper is adjustable in high-speed and low-speed compression as well as high-speed and low-speed rebound. It also features adjustable blow-off valves for both compression and rebound. The new six-way adjustable KW V7 Racing Dampers are also featured in the Lamborghini Temerario GT3, which was presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. More at www.kwautomotive.de
In recent years, suspension manufacturer KW automotive has built a broad portfolio of motorsport dampers under its KW suspensions brand. As a result, more and more automotive manufacturers are relying on KW dampers in their customer racing programs — from the BMW M2 Racing to the Porsche 911 GT3 R. KW automotive also plays an active role in factory-backed efforts in the LMDh class, serving as a technology partner to Lamborghini Squadra Corse. Among other projects, the suspension manufacturer equips the Lamborghini SC63 LMDh with its damper systems.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, KW automotive presented the new KW V7 Racing Damper to an international audience for the first time. Initially developed for GT3 race cars, this damper is based on KW’s Solid Piston Technology, in which the valves are separated from the piston. The working piston displaces the hydraulic column toward the valves. This design allows significantly higher forces to be generated at low gas pressure, while the offset and flow-optimized valves ensure cavitation-free operation and enable the entire system to function with minimal hysteresis. The dampers cover a wide force characteristic range between 1,000 N and 12,000 N. Even under minimal suspension travel and high aerodynamic loads, the system operates with high precision. Depending on the Balance of Performance (BoP) classification, current GT3 vehicles generate downforce of around 900 kilograms at top speed on the Döttinger Höhe section of the Nürburgring Nordschleife — equivalent to more than two-thirds of the vehicle’s total weight.
The valves are adjustable in high-speed and low-speed compression, as well as high-speed and low-speed rebound. Additionally, the V7 Racing Damper features a blow-off adjustment for both compression and rebound, allowing for a flatter force curve in the high-speed range. This provides the advantage of maintaining vehicle control even when aggressively cutting curbs during a race. The KW V7 Racing Damper is manufactured from high-strength aluminum alloy. Shim inserts allow the ride height to be leveled without affecting suspension travel through the spring perch during height adjustment. At Goodwood, Lamborghini presented the new Lamborghini Temerario GT3, which is equipped with the new KW V7 Racing Damper from KW automotive. The first race outing for the Lamborghini Temerario GT3 will be the 12 Hours of Sebring in March 2026.
