KW develops aftermarket suspensions for an increasing number of electric vehicles: KW V3 coilover kit is now available for the KIA EV6 GT

31 January 2024

Whether a sports car, compact vehicle, or SUV, the suspension manufacturer KW automotive offers various coilover suspension systems for all car segments. In response to the growing demand for automotive accessories for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, KW has already developed a variety of suspension kits for nearly 50 electric cars. KW now offers its KW V3 coilover suspension for the 585-horsepower electric crossover KIA EV6 GT. The established multi-valve technology developed by KW, featuring pre-set high-speed damping valves and adjustable low-speed damping valves for compression and rebound, creates a sporty yet comfortable driving behavior to the all-wheel-drive electric SUV. The parts certificate (TÜV parts approval) covers a continuously adjustable lowering of 20 to 45 millimeters on both axles. In addition to the coilover suspension, the KIA is equipped with BBS CC-R Unlimited alloy wheels measuring 10x22 inches. More at www.kwsuspensions.net

As sporty and firm as necessary, yet as comfortable as possible, the KW Street Performance product line has been distinguishing itself for years. Many automotive enthusiasts decide on KW automotive's coilover kits, a choice that extends to electric vehicle drivers, a group that is experiencing steady growth. In 2023 alone, nearly two million all-electric vehicles were registered in Western Europe, accounting for 16.9% of all newly registered passenger cars. "We have not only successfully established our coilover suspensions in the market for Tesla Model S, Model 3, and Model Y but also for BMW i4, Skoda Enyaq iV, Volkswagen ID Buzz, and others," says KW Brand Manager Florian Johann. "Rimac equips its hypercar Nevera with our suspension technology ex-works.

Now also available for the KIA EV6 GT: KW V3 coilovers

For the Korean crossover SUV, the KW V3 coilover kit is now available. The coilover suspension differs from other accessory suspensions in its stainless-steel struts and damper housing, and its infinitely variable lowering. With the V3, the dampers can be easily adjusted to provide a firmer or more comfortable ride, allowing for individual customization of the KIA EV6 GT's driving characteristics. Even in the pre-set basic configuration, the KIA, weighing up to 2.2 tons, handles much more agilely without sacrificing comfort despite the heightened driving dynamics. This is made possible by the two-stage multi-valve technology used in the KW V3 coilover suspension. The separately manually adjustable compression and rebound settings in the KW V3 consist of a high-speed and low-speed valve. "High-speed inputs always come from the road, such as from bumps or transverse joints," explains Florian Johann. "When driving the KIA over poorly maintained roads, our suspension system gracefully dampens the ride, even with a maximum lowering of up to 45 millimeters, and the tires maintain grip, even in a tightly tuned setup." While the high-speed valves are delivered during manufacturing with a non-adjustable damper characteristic specific to the vehicle, the KW V3 offers the option to adjust the low-speed valves further. This adjustment can even be done in the installed state. For those seeking an even more direct handling experience in the 585-horsepower KIA EV6 GT, the preset low-speed rebound setup of the KW V3 coilover suspension can be enhanced by closing the valve cross-section. Damper adjustments are made using ergonomically shaped adjustment knobs directly on the shock absorber. Conversely, if the valve is further opened, ride comfort is increased. 16-click stages are available directly on the KW coilover suspension for this purpose. Nevertheless, the low-speed compression forces can be adjusted with twelve clicks. The compression setting influences, among other things, whether the wheels compress firmly or less firmly. Even in conjunction with the 10x22-inch (offset 49 mm) and 10x22-inch (offset 42 mm) BBS CC-R Unlimited wheels in White Gold, paired with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires and a set lowering of 45 millimeters, the Korean electric SUV impresses with neutral steering precision and sporty ride comfort.
