KW Clubsport coilover suspension kit with proven DTM Motorsport Solid Piston Technology for BMW M4 CSL and BMW M4 (G82)

Motorsport has always served as a source of technology for sports cars and independent aftermarket parts. KW automotive, a specialist in the development and production of motorsport shocks and suspension parts, now introduces the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension kit for the current generation of BMW M4, BMW M4 Competition, and BMW M4 CSL (G82). This suspension kit is built on the KW developments for the BMW customer racing program. For example, KW automotive equips all BMW M4 GT3 in the DTM with its Solid Piston Technology and all BMW M4 GT4 race cars for GT4 motorsport races around the globe. Like the motorsport suspension for the production-based race car M4 GT4 the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension kit features a special 40-millimeter damper cartridge. This cartridge is housed in MacPherson front axle struts. In contrast to the KW V5 Racing GT4 suspension, the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension allows track day and club sport enthusiasts to adjust additional parameters. Ergonomic dials on the shocks enable the independent adjustment of the high-speed compression, high-speed rebound, low-speed compression, and low-speed rebound damping forces. On top, the four-way adjustable KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension features aluminum top mounts for both axles. The kit is available for all BMW M4 Coupé, BMW M4, and BMW M4 CSL models. All aftermarket customers benefit from the developments of the KW automotive group’s product built for motorsports. Many track day and club sport enthusiasts appreciate the KW Clubsport product range with its two-way, three-way, and four-way adjustable high-performance KW shock absorbers. The Clubsport kits are a trickle-down development of the official motorsports shock absorbers KW has produced for many years which are used in customer racing programs of many car manufacturers. "With the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension, we are now completing our product range for the current BMW M4 series," says KW Brand Manager Florian Johann. "While the damping forces in the production-based BMW M4 GT4 race car can be adjusted in two parameters due to regulations, the KW V5 Clubsport allows separate adjustment of compression and rebound damping in the high-speed and low-speed range of piston rod velocity, so you have at the end four damping adjustment parameters." Similar to the BMW M4 GT4 racing suspension, the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension kit is manufactured with MacPherson front axle struts made from a steel alloy and KW 40-millimeter damper cartridges in an upside-down(inverted) design. Due to this strut construction, the piston rod no longer has direct wheel guiding properties. As a result, the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension can withstand much higher lateral forces compared to the original equipment technology used in the BMW M4. The Clubsport damper housings on the rear axle of a high-strength aircraft aluminum alloy. "In our pre-dialed recommend setup, the KW V5 Clubsport is already preconfigured for use on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with typical track day wheel-tire combinations," says Florian Johann. The dampers can be manually adjusted from the performance base setting to various setups at any time using the adjustment dials. The KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension kit enables also a stepless lowering of the BMW M4 (G82) from 20 to 35 millimeters at the front axle and 15 to 30 millimeters at the rear axle. According to the technical parts certificate and documentation, the BMW M4 CSL features an adjustment of the ground clearance by 15 to 30 millimeters at the front axle and 10 to 25 millimeters at the rear axle. The Clubsport reaches its full potential in production-based sports cars with semi-slick tires.

KW Clubsport: 40 millimeters damper cartridge and more adjustments than a GT4 racing suspension

Similar to the motorsport suspension for the BMW M4 GT4 the KW V5 Clubsport coilover suspension is constructed with the KW solid piston technology. In contrast to conventional monotube or twin-tube shock absorber, the working piston is not overflown by the hydraulic fluid, and the damping force is not generated in the working piston. The KW solid piston displaces the whole oil column directly into the valve housing, where the damper fluid flows through the low-speed needle valves and high-speed wave valves. The damping forces are generated there. "With the displacement piston design of the KW V5 Clubsport, we can work much more effectively with the hydraulic system of the suspension dampers," says Florian Johann. "Essentially, a car rests on its springs while riding on its dampers. The dampers control the dynamic phases, so to speak." Even with limited suspension travel, high speeds, and strong lateral forces on the racetrack, the Clubsport coilover suspension enables precise damping to keep the BMW M4 (G82) safe and easily controllable. The KW V5 strikes the perfect balance in the BMW between superior chassis control and grip, even during high-frequency vertical wheel accelerations. KW V5 Clubsport customers have provided positive feedback to the suspension manufacturer and expressed great confidence in the coilover suspension when driving on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. "We even have track day drivers ordering this damper technology as a custom build suspension for their older BMW M3 E36 models. Despite having stock power, they achieve Bridge-to-Gantry lap times of under 7:12 minutes at the Nürburgring Nordschleife during track days. Their high cornering speeds more than compensate for the lower engine output, thanks to our suspension technology," adds Florian Johann. Like all KW Clubsport coilover suspensions, the KW V5 Clubsport is accompanied by a parts certificate and will soon be available for all BMW M4 (G82) models.
