Introducing the new generation of KW V4 Clubsport coilover kits for BMW 3 Series (G20) and BMW 4 Series (G22)

17 May 2024

For BMW 3 Series (G20) sedan as well as the BMW 4 Series (G22) coupé with all-wheel drive, the new KW V4 Clubsport coilover suspension kit is now available. The suspension is based on KW's racing developments for the BMW M customer sports program. The front axle strut housings are now made from a motorsport alloy combined with 40-millimeter upside-down damper cartridges (kind of inverted monotube design). Additionally, the uniball top mounts for the front axle strut housings and the rear dampers come from the customer sports program. The front axle strut housings feature an external reservoir with adjustable high-speed and low-speed compression damping valves, while these valves are integrated laterally in the rear dampers. The low-speed rebound forces are adjusted via the piston rod. Depending on the model, the approval of the KW V4 Clubsport coilover suspension allows for continuous lowering of up to 60 millimeters. For fast lap times, a BMW M isn't always necessary. Many enthusiasts upgrade their 3 Series and 4 Series to near-series sports cars. "By near-series," says KW Brand Manager Florian Johann, "we mean a car that retains road approval, unlike an emptied lightweight with racing modifications." KW has offered Clubsport coilovers since the E36 for all 3 Series and the F32 for all 4 Series. Now, they're available for the current rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive 3 Series sedans and the all-wheel-drive 4 Series Coupe (with rear-wheel-drive availability coming soon). The entire KW V4 Clubsport design is optimized for semi-slick tires on near-series vehicles. Its multi-valve technology effectively dampens bumps and curbs, keeping even a modified 3 Series controllable on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. "Even in the pre-set setup," says Johann, "our suspension brings calmness to the BMW, and it remains controllable at the limit of driving dynamics."

In detail: The new KW V4 Clubsport coilover suspension with uniball top mounts

For the KW V4 Clubsport coilover suspension with its triple adjustable dampers, the suspension manufacturer has adapted its KW Racing Single Tube dampers. In a 40 mm sliding bearing damper cartridge, the damper is inserted rotated by 180 degrees compared to the known KW V4 coilover suspension. "So to speak, the damper is upside down, and the piston rod is protected from the high lateral forces on Grand Prix circuits," explains Florian Johann further. "We now use this construction for the majority of our Clubsport new applications for current vehicles such as the BMW M2 (G87), BMW M3 (G80), and BMW M4 (G82)." At the front axle strut, the damping forces are generated on the working piston and the low-speed and high-speed compression valves in the reservoir. Via the integrated click wheels, 16 clicks are available for adjusting the setup in the rebound stage and 13 clicks each in the high-speed and low-speed compression stages. Even during aggressive steering maneuvers, the body structure is perfectly supported, and curbs are dampened by the Clubsport suspension. The camber adjustable Clubsport uniball bearings ensure even more direct handling and allow for adjusting the camber for maximum tire contact patch. With negative camber, the outer wheel supports better on the rim, benefiting from dynamic road holding on racetracks. Due to the five-link rear axle of the BMW 3 Series sedan and the BMW 4 Series Coupe, the rear dampers are not manufactured in upside-down construction. Also, no external reservoir is used. The independently adjustable low-speed and high-speed compression valves are mounted on the side of the damper and can be fine-tuned with 13 clicks each. The aluminum support bearings for the rear dampers are uniball-mounted and are directly attached to the original series mounting points on the body. Camber adjustment is done as usual in the series on the rear axle control arms. The supplied uniball support bearings for the rear dampers are the same as those used in the BMW M4 GT4 customer racing car. The KW V4 Clubsport coilover suspension allows for continuous lowering of 40 to 60 millimeters for the BMW 3 Series (G20) sedan with or without BMW xDrive (all-wheel drive) within the scope of the parts approval. For the BMW 4 Series Coupe with all-wheel drive, continuous lowering of 30 to 50 millimeters is possible. For more information and prices in your region please visit
