Eaton stamped battery terminals provide higher energy cycle efficiency and lighter weight for electric and internal combustion engine vehicles

12 September 2023

Eaton, the intelligent power management company, today announced that its power connectivity business can now power electric and internal combustion passenger vehicles as well as on- and off-highway Stamped battery terminals are available for on-highway commercial vehicles. Eaton's stamped battery terminals offer several benefits, including higher energy cycle efficiency compared to die-cast or forged terminals and varying degrees of weight savings depending on the application.

"Each of our battery terminals exceeds industry standards and can be uniquely customized to customer specifications," said John Romain, director of power connectivity product management for Eaton's Vehicles and Vehicle Electrification Group. "Our power connection technology leverages decades of experience in Experience in designing innovative electrical components for the mobility industry.”

Stamped battery terminals are customizable and compatible with battery post configurations compliant with Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), German Industrial Standards (DIN), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). In addition, Eaton's tools provide the flexibility to adapt to customers' changing cabling requirements.

Romain said: “We also use finite element analysis to predict real-world physical behavior by testing cam models to ensure that our products meet the quality standards our customers expect. Our stamped battery terminals are also ideal for use with large gauge cables. Commercial vehicle applications because more force is required to pull this type of terminal from the terminal compared to traditional die-cast or forged terminals.”

Power connection sector expands market opportunities

Eaton established the power connection business unit after acquiring Royal Power Solutions in 2022. Royal Power Solutions is a global leader in the development and production of critical high-precision power and signal distribution components. Eaton offers a wide range of industry-leading electrical components, including stamped battery terminals and socket terminals for electric vehicles (EVs) and internal combustion engine vehicles. Eaton has also developed technologies that provide differentiated value to the electric vehicle market, including its recently launched High Power Lock Box (HPLB) terminal.
