CATL and its new partners are strengthening their commitment to electrifying commercial vehicles in Europe

28 April 2020

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) (300750.SZ), the world's leading manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), in response to the growing trend in e-mobility, expands its partnership with VDL Bus & Coach BV and Quantron AG to optimize local product solutions and commercial vehicle electrification services in Europe. The new partnerships are important to CATL's foreign strategy for the commercial vehicle business, as it enables it to develop a comprehensive and flexible network for large OEMs and small and medium-sized enterprises (OEMs).

Cooperation with VDL Bus & Coach for the distribution of electric buses in the EU

CATL recently signed a contract with VDL Bus & Coach, a European pioneer in the field of electric public transport. Under the agreement, CATL will provide VDL Bus & Coach with its high energy density battery system, based on its standardized LFP CTP (Simplified Battery Cell Arrangement) product. VDL Bus & Coach is the market leader in electric buses with a share of 22 percent. Through this collaboration, CATL is able to offer European electric bus customers flexible solutions and complete services throughout their lifecycle. In addition, VDL Bus & Coach intends to further expand its market share and move closer to the "Focus on Zero" goal (zero carbon footprint).

Quantron AG has become an authorized dealer of CATL in Europe

Under the newly concluded agreement between CATL and Quantron AG, the German company Quantron AG is now an authorized distributor and service partner of CATL for commercial vehicles and industrial applications in Europe. As an importer, Quantron AG is authorized to distribute CATL batteries in Europe. With standardized battery products CATL, LFP CTP and NMC modules, CATL and Quantron AG will be able to help SMEs find flexible solutions to meet their needs, from sales and integration to after-sales service, even at low levels. purchase volumes. Thanks to the support of the Quantron AG network, CATL is able to further reduce delivery times, better suit local application scenarios and offer solutions for high cost efficiency.

"CATL is committed to supporting new energy innovation around the world. Providing highly efficient and reliable solutions for the electrification of commercial vehicles is an essential element for the overall development of the electric mobility market, "said Li Xiaoning, Executive President of the Overseas Commercial Vehicle Division." CATL, VDL Bus & Coach and Quantron AG share the same commitment and A passion for e-mobility. We look forward to working with our partners to deliver more value to our shared European customers. "

Diverse solutions for different applications

In the case of the electrification of commercial vehicles, which includes city and intercity buses, lorries, vans and vehicles for industrial applications such as forklifts and construction machinery, the requirements for use and working conditions are different and much more complicated.

CATL battery solutions with LFP chemical properties, extremely long life cycle and high thermal stability up to 800 ° C, excellent product performance in TOC (total cost of ownership) and safety, allow adaptation to different application scenarios. Thanks to the advantages of CTP technology, which reduces the normal number of module parts, the battery has a higher integration efficiency of 90% and, as a result, the energy density of the LFP CTP kit reaches an output of up to 160 Wh / kg. The NMC battery is another optional solution for the electrification of commercial vehicles, especially for vehicles that have higher requirements for volume efficiency. Drives higher energy density vehicles for long distance and profit based applications.

In addition to VDL Bus & Coach and Quantron AG, CATL works with Daimler Trucks & Buses and is part of the VWCO international alliance, the e-Consortium, to support the electrification of commercial vehicles worldwide.
