Allego Announces Full Network Deployment of Plug & Charge Technology Based on OCPP 2.0.1
3 September 2024
Allego, a leading provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, is proud to announce the upcoming network-wide deployment of its innovative Plug & Charge technology. The rollout, which will begin in Q4 2024, represents a major step forward in Allego’s mission to provide EV drivers with a seamless, secure and future-proof charging experience across Europe.
With Allego Plug & Charge, drivers will no longer need to use RFID cards, credit cards or mobile apps. This new feature provides automatic authentication and payment when the EV is plugged in, eliminating the need for manual intervention. By simplifying the payment process and providing a seamless charging experience across networks and regions, Allego Plug & Charge makes it more convenient for drivers to travel beyond the Allego network. Guillaume Goijen, Director of Charging Solutions and Site Design at Allego, said: “ We are pleased to introduce Allego Plug & Charge as part of our commitment to putting drivers first. This technology streamlines the charging process and ensures that every session is secure and tamper-proof, thanks to our implementation of certificate-based authentication with encrypted communication.”
Allego’s Plug & Charge technology is based on the latest OCPP 2.0.1 protocol, improving security and compatibility with future charging and electric vehicle technologies. This deployment represents the most secure implementation of Plug & Charge technology on the market, which was made possible by Allego’s collaboration with industry leaders such as Alpitronic and Ford. Alexis Galley, Chief Technology Officer at Allego, said: “ We are outpacing the competition by bringing the safest and most user-friendly Plug & Charge solution to market. Our technology meets today’s needs and is designed to adapt to future advancements, providing peace of mind to EV drivers as they embrace a more sustainable mode of transportation.”
Joerg Hofmeister, European Head of Charging and Energy, Model e, Ford Motor Company, said: “ Ford is proud to partner with Allego to bring high-power charging infrastructure to European dealerships and fully embraces this innovative Plug & Charge technology, which aligns perfectly with our mission to make electric vehicle ownership more convenient and accessible. By simplifying the charging process, we are removing barriers to EV adoption and providing our customers with the seamless experience they expect from Ford.”
Wolfgang Ademmer, CMO of Alpitronic, says: “ The collaboration with Allego for the deployment of Plug & Charge technology is an important milestone for electric mobility. Our joint efforts ensure maximum safety and unmatched convenience for drivers at every charging station in Europe.” The full network rollout of Allego’s Plug & Charge technology will begin in Q4 2024 with the launch in the Netherlands and Germany, and will then continue in phases, bringing this cutting-edge solution to Allego’s extensive network across Europe. This development is part of Allego’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve the EV charging experience, solidifying its leadership position in the e-mobility industry.
