Added driving dynamics for the BMW 3 Series (E9x): ST XTA plus 3 coilover suspension for BMW 3 Series with rear-wheel drive

5 June 2024

The three-way adjustable ST XTA plus 3 coilover suspension is now available for all BMW 3 Series models manufactured from 2005 to 2013. The suspension manufactured by KW automotive in Germany is designed for all BMW 3 Series - BMW 3 Series Sedan Touring  Coupé  Convertible as well as the BMW M3 models. The ST XTA plus 3 gives the entire 3 Series model range a noticeable improvement in driving dynamics and handling. Responsible for the performance gain are the KW dampers used, which are independently adjustable in the low-speed compression stage, high-speed compression stage and low-speed rebound stage. In addition, the coilover suspension has adjustable Unibal top mounts on the front axle and racing springs. The ST XTA plus 3, which costs 2,349 euros, also enables maximum lowering. According to the parts certificate, the BMW 3 Series of the E9x series can be continuously lowered by up to 60 millimeters, depending on the model. The ST XTA plus 3 coilover suspension can also be ordered individually in terms of spring coating and spring labeling. Please visit www.st-suspensions.net for more information.

The ST XTA plus 3 coilover suspension leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to setup and performance in a road suspension. Thanks to the wide range of separately adjustable compression and rebound damping, the ST coilover suspension offers extensive adjustability for a personalized setup. The low-speed and high-speed compression forces can be adjusted with 24 clicks each. There is a choice of 16 clicks for the low-speed rebound. The adjustable rebound stage influences, among other things, how the suspension rebounds during load changes, when the suspension is compressed. The compression stage, on the other hand, influences the compression speed of the piston rod in the damper in conjunction with the spring rate of the suspension spring. In addition, the compression stage also affects the pitch and roll movements of the body as well as the steering behavior. In the case of performance suspensions such as the ST XTA plus 3 coilover suspension, the low-speed and high-speed specifications refer to the speed of movement of the piston rod during compression and rebound. Slow piston rod movements are typical for steering movements and, for example, braking before bends; while fast piston rod movements are caused by bumps in the road due to bumps and transverse joints. The aluminum support bearings on the front axle suspension struts are included in the ST XTA plus 3. They make the steering even more precise than with strut mounts with rubber-metal elements. In addition, the camber can also be adjusted with the ST strut mount. While the BMW E90, E91 and E93 with rear-wheel drive can be lowered from 30 to 60 millimeters on both axles with the ST coilover suspension, the tested lowering range for the BMW E92 is 20 to 50 millimeters. However, the BMW M3 models (E90, E92, E93), which are already lowered at the factory, can be lowered by between 10 and 40 millimeters at the front and rear with the ST XTA plus 3 coilover suspension.

Just like other ST coilovers, the ST XTA plus 3 lets you customize your ride. Pick your poison from 18 different spring colors – available from specialty shops or straight from the manufacturer. You can even personalize the springs with custom labels! Check out www.st-suspensions.net to learn more.
