Continental Structural Plastics' Inapal division components reduce weight and complexity for a new luxury SUV in Europe

22 October 2020

Inapal Plásticos, the Portuguese division of Continental Structural Plastics, will produce a series of lightweight, low-density composite components made by sheet molded compound (SMC) for the first SUV from a prestigious luxury car manufacturer. These 11 components, ranging from elements for the engine compartment to parts for the underbody and Class A components, will reduce the complexity of the parts and the overall weight of the vehicle.

The molding of the complex radiator frame in low density composite material allowed the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to limit the number of parts required for the engine compartment, considerably reducing the complexity of the assembly and the weight.
