Global engineering firm Trelleborg on Wednesday has entered into a joint venture with Yogesh Agencies & Investments Private Limited, owned by the entrepreneur family Mahansaria to manufacture tires for two-wheeled motor vehicles.

Through its Trelleborg Wheel Systems business area, the company has decided to invest in a tyre production facility in the country to strengthen its position in the respective market segment, Trelleborg said in a release.

Commenting on the JV, Paolo Pompei, President of the Trelleborg Wheel Systems business area said “The investment enables us to continue to take our motorcycle tire operations to a new level. We believe this particular expansion is best accomplished together with a partner and we are very happy that we can do this with the respected Mahansaria family."

Under this JV, Trelleborg will own 24 percent of the JV and will continue to be responsible for the development and sales of Mitas tyres as well as retaining ownership of the Mitas brand. The Mahansaria family will be responsible for the sales of Mitas tyres for two-wheeled motorcycles in India and SAARC countries, except Sri Lanka.

The duo has chosen Western India to establish the production site. Tyre deliveries from this site are expected to start at the end of 2020.
