Ashok Leyland plans on making electric buses in India

Hinduja Group company,Ashok Leyland, will be introducing an electric version of the well known Optare buses in India early in the year 2015.The company is on talks regarding a site for its plant at Alwar, Rajasthan and another one in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu.

It has its own bus manufacturing facility at both of these locations. The company has sold about 100 Optare buses in a year in the market of UK .

The buses will bear electric motors and batteries and will not have any engines. There shall also be a diesel variant. The electric motors shall be imported from UK,US or from China. However the diesel ones shall be made by the company.
