Automotive Technology - A Key Resource to Automotive Technology


General Motors plans to establish a power train production unit at Talegaon, Pune, for which the company is to sign an MoU with the government of Maharashtra. Installation cost of the unit is Rs 1,200 million and shall produce engines and gear boxes, with a capacity of two lakh units per year. 


General Motors had also established a car manufacturing facility in Talegaon in 2006, which is  scheduled to begin operations in September. Set up with an investment of Rs 1,400 million, the plant will manufacture 1,40,000 small cars, including Chevrolet Spark.


The Talegaon project is also one of the largest greenfield investments in Maharashtra, and shall increase General Motors' production capacity to 2,25,000 cars per year. General Motors also expanded production at its another manufacturing unit, at Halol in Gujarat  from 65,000 cars to 85,000 cars per year.
