A new 5,000 square metre Japan Engineering Center (JEC) equipped with research and development, application engineering and full product testing capabilities was opened in Yokohama, by TRW Automotive Holdings Corp, the global leader in active and passive safety systems
With a workforce of about 63,800 and sales figures of $13.1 billion in 2006, the company is headquartered in Livonia, Michigan, USA, and operates in 28 countries through its subsidiaries.
The new three-story center also serves as the centre for the Japan sales and management team totalling about 130.The JEC is particularly meant to consolidate the company’s presence in Japan.
The JEC considerably improves TRW’s Occupant Safety Systems presence in Japan and is equipped with the new dynamic crash simulator with full sled testing capability. The facility also provides a common location for all the four engineering groups including steering & suspension, braking, occupant safety, and integrated safety systems. The centre also houses advanced test equipment for all of the company’s product lines.
Speaking on the occasion, TRW president and CEO John C. Plant said "The new center is a reflection of our commitment to the Japanese market and our ongoing effort to provide the best in advanced safety systems to Japanese customers, both domestically and around the world."
