Hero to launch New Metal Body Unisex Scooter to Rival Activa

Tuesday, Feb 10, 2015

While motorcycles have always been Hero MotoCorp’s mainstay in the two-wheeler sector, the recent amplification of scooter sales has led to the manufacturer join the promising segment. With Honda being the undisputed king of the scooter space, Hero is eyeing the segment hugely and has lined up a slew of new scooter launches this year which includes an all-new 110cc unisex scooter that is being developed to rival the most selling ‘Activa’ in the same space. It could be called Dewlet.

Hero has been working on the project for some time now and the upcoming unisex 110cc scooter is based on an all-new platform. A major deal breaker for Hero, the company made to sure to keep the project under wraps and also did not showcase the model at the 2014 Auto Expo along with its other range of future offerings that graced the pavilion. The upcoming 110 scooter will also be the first model in Hero’s lineup to get an all-metal body that is currently absent on the Maestro and Pleasure scooters.
While the Maestro is male-centric scooter and the Pleasure a female friendly offering, the new unisex model will get more neutral in terms of design language and will also be a feature rich offering taking cues from the upcoming Dash 110cc scooter. Reports also suggest that Hero is likely to launch the new scooter as early as in the second quarter of the calendar year (April-June) to take on the newly launched Activa 3G.

Hero plans to bring its new scooters rapidly this year and tap on the impressive growth the segment has to offer. The scooter segment is growing at 21 percent for the current fiscal and is the fastest growing segment of the Indian automotive market. In addition, Hero’s upcoming range of new scooters include the Dash 110, Dare 125 and Zir 150 that cater to different segments and could be launched ahead of its new motorcycles. The company has also massively scaled up its R&D, bringing new technological innovations on its upcoming products.
